Islands are always something special: they are characterised by the flair that everything on the island is limited and stays there. Of course there are ferries, but it is still a different feeling of seclusion and finality that many people consciously seek out. Some literature has been written on islands, to give just one example.
The sandy island of Juist is known as Töwerland, or magic land, and is the longest East Frisian island with a width of just 500 metres and a length of 17 kilometres. On one of the wonderful carriage rides, you can discover the island as a whole and even switch from north to south.
Norderney also invites visitors to take a day trip. In contrast to tranquil Juist, the sandy island of Norderney is considered to be quite lively, even fashionable. Germany’s first North Sea resort was founded here in 1799 and the Fährhaus played a small part in this development. The town centre offers seaside resort flair with great shopping opportunities. The nearly endless beaches invite to swim, surf, kite and much more; the east beach in particular is considered trendy, chilled and absolutely in. So no matter which way you want to experience Norderney – a day trip is always worthwhile!
