Here you will find the directions for your journey to the Wellness Hotel Fährhaus

  • Arriving at the city of Norden, please continue on the B72 in the direction of Norddeich, harbour and islands.
  • At the first roundabout, take the second exit in the direction of Norddeich and follow the road for another 5 km.
  • Leave the second roundabout at the second exit in the direction of Norddeich harbour.
  • After reaching Norddeich, you will pass the Frisia car park.
  • After the traffic island, please get into the left-hand lane and turn left.
  • After crossing the railway line, you will have completed your journey to the Wellness Hotel Fährhaus in just a few metres!
  • Rail travellers please travel to Norddeich Mole. From here it is only a few steps to our hotel. If you wish, we can also pick you up from there.

The History of the Hotel Fährhaus

The History of the Hotel Fährhaus

The Hotel Fährhaus is a house with history and a long tradition of warm hospitality. The original farmhouse on the site of today’s Fährhaus was built well over 200 years ago.

  • 1838

    In 1838, the ferryman’s house was built at the same location. This is where the tickets for the crossings to the islands were sold. After an exhausting journey in a carriage and the harsh weather and tides, “stranded” guests regularly found accommodation in the ferryman’s house. With the expansion of Norddeich harbour and better ferry connections, tourism to the islands and thus to the coast grew. The ferryman’s house enjoyed ever-increasing popularity in the summer months, initially as a “Deichachtskrug”, becoming an inn and then the Hotel Fährhaus. Since then, the cheerful Frisian manner in which guests are welcomed here has remained unchanged, making their stay something very special.

  • 1900

    Around 1900, the hotel began by renting out 15 rooms. The Hotel Fährhaus has grown steadily ever since. It has been renovated, modernised, extended, expanded and built on. The restaurant was soon enlarged towards the harbour and later extended upwards, creating new rooms.

  • 1959

    In 1959, an extension was added on the east side with shops and more rooms.

  • 1972

    A further floor was added in 1972. The Hotel Fährhaus now had 32 rooms.

  • 1996

    In 1996, there was a change of ownership from the Schoon family to the Klug family, who had successfully built up the Hotel Regina Maris on Badestraße since 1971. The Hotel Fährhaus grew with the new owners over the following years. Initially, the existing building was renovated and modernised. The shops were turned into double rooms with land view.

  • 2003

    In 2003, the new west deck was built with 46 rooms and suites, all with sea views. This more than doubled the number of rooms. In the course of this, a unique wellness area was created 25 metres above the sea with sauna, steam bath, tepidarium, outdoor pool, as well as indoor and outdoor sun decks with a fantastic view. The large cosmetics department with hammam and rasul bath is located on the ground floor of the new hotel complex.

  • 2008

    A generational change took place in 2008 when the hotel business was handed over to the Fröhlich family. They continued the ongoing modernisation, resulting in the rooms on the east deck being given balconies and modernised in 2010.

  • 2011

    As part of the planned reorganisation of the gastronomic offer, the remaining land view rooms on the ground floor of the east deck and the old hotel bar were given up in winter 2011 to be replaced by the Tenderbar. It is a popular meeting place during the day, as well as the last place to go for a nightcap before going to bed. Two conference rooms were also created next to the Tenderbar.

  • 2013 / 2014

    In the following years, 2013 and 2014, the breakfast area and the restaurant were completely renovated step by step. Since then, the ambience has matched the overall concept of a Nordic-fresh coastal hotel. In the following years, the room facilities were regularly modernised. In 2022 and 2023, significant investments were made in improved fire protection and a modern new kitchen.

  • When Are the Rooms Ready for Occupancy?

    The rooms are ready to move into at the day of arrival at 3 pm.
    If requested, we willingly note an earlier arrival and bear this in mind.
    Certainly, an arrival before 3 pm is possible and we try our best that your room is prepared for an earlier Check-In. If the room is not ready to move into, we are willingly store your luggage, while you already enjoy a refreshing North Sea breeze or bridge the time of waiting at a cosy “Teetied” – tea time.

  • Are There Towels and Bathrobes in the Rooms?

    Certainly, towels and bathrobes are ready at your arrival. If a specific bathrobe size is required, please inform us before your arrival so that we are well-prepared.

  • Does a Hairdryer Belong to the Room Facilities?

    Surely, all rooms are equipped with a hairdryer in the bathroom.

  • Does the Hotel Have WLAN?

    Throughout the hotel, our wireless network is available to you free of charge. Once you have accepted the GTCs, you will receive access.

  • Is a Reservation for a Parking Spot Necessary?

    Overall, our house has available both in the front and in the back of the house a sufficiently large number of parking spots. Therefore, a prior reservation is unnecessary.

  • Is the hotel barrier-free or accessible?

    Unfortunately, our house is not barrier-free or barrier-reduced, as our rooms are not handicapped friendly furnished and under certain circumstances are not specifically tailored to the needs of wheelchair users due to the narrow room and bathroom doors. In addition, there are some rooms that are only accessible over stairs (10-20 steps). Our indoor swimming pool is also only accessible via stairs.
    Nevertheless, we would be very glad to check in a personal conversation if we are able to fulfil the special requirements to provide you with a relaxed holiday experience.

  • Are Children Welcome in the Hotel Fährhaus?

    Certainly, we are also glad to welcome your children at our house. Many of our rooms are well spaced, so that an extra bed for your children should be no problem. Furthermore, we offer two-room family combinations with a connecting door as well as a co-location in the same room.

  • Does the Hotel Allow Bringing Dogs and Other Pets?

    Unfortunately, our hotel does not allow bringing your four-legged friend.

  • Are There Appropriate Facilities for Smokers?

    However, with our smokerslounge within the tenderbar we created a comfortable and well-designed refuge for smokers as alternative to the uncomfortable and cold way of going outside. No matter if pipe, cigar or cigarette, here refined taste is guaranteed.

Wellness & Leisure

  • Are the Swimming Pools Heated?

    Both our indoor pool and our outdoor pool are heated up, so that you are able to enjoy even in the winter the gorgeous view. However, we suggest wearing a swimming cap in the outdoor pool at low temperatures.

  • At What Times Is The Sauna Facility Accessible?

    Both our steam sauna and our Finnish sauna as well as the tepidarium with a wonderful view on our vigorous North Sea are in operation daily from noon to 9 pm. Should you wish an earlier activation, please let us know.

  • What Are the Opening Hours of the ‘Wellness & Meer’?

    Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 am to 06:00 pm, the ‘Wellness & Meer’ is opened. If requested, appointments out of opening hours are available. Please get in touch with Ms. Endelmann from the ‘Wellness Lower Deck’ by calling 04931 9887666.

  • At What Times Is the Restaurant Open?

    Our breakfast buffet is daily available from 7:00 am to 10:00 am.
    Sundays from noon to 02:00 pm and daily from 06:00 pm to 09:30 pm, hot food is available. Last orders are possible until 01:45 pm and 09:00 pm, respectively.
    Also Sundays, we serve an extensive and delicious assortment of pastries and fancy cakes in the time from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

  • What Are the Opening Hours of the Bar?

    Our ‘tenderbar’ is opened from Tuesday until Saturday starting at 6 pm.

  • Do You Serve Vegetarian Cuisine?

    Both at our substantial breakfast buffet and at supper, we are serving vegetarian delicacies. Our kitchen team gladly answers further requests. Consequently, just let us know.
